About

Ben: A film and television actor since his teens, Ben Foster has impressed audiences with his work in the Oscar-nominated film The Messenger, the Emmy-winning series Six Feet Under, and as Charlie Prince in 3:10 to Yuma. The latter character was the inspiration for the sci-fi Western novel A Book of Tongues. Ben narrated James Frey’s audiobook Bright Shiny Morning, as well as a story in Etgar Keret’s Suddenly, A Knock on the Door. He just wrapped Kill Your Darlings, co-starring  Michael C. Hall and Daniel Radcliffe, and will film two more projects this year. Ben has a production company with Oren Moverman called Third Mind Pictures. He is 31, and lives in New York.

Site: Online since May 2010. This site borrowed its name from a Leonard Cohen tribute album. I update regularly with news, links and photos. Use the navigation bar on the left for posts about Ben’s current projects; see the filmography below for posts about completed projects. Photos are archived here.

Me: I’ve been following Ben’s career for 6 years. Film critic Jett Loe summarized what drew me to the actor when he said that while watching Ben, he has “the same feeling, I think, that viewers in the 1970s must have gotten when they saw Robert De Niro in Mean Streets, when he was unknown.” Most actors I love are a generation older than me. When I see some of their early films, I regret that the “original” experience has passed me by. I’m fascinated by the opportunity to age with an actor I admire, and to watch his career in real time. Offline I’m a young professional, a movie lover, a lady and a scholar. The Piano Teacher and The Deer Hunter are some of my favorite films.
